Using these worksheets in teaching
Long multiplication fails for two quite different reasons, and telling them apart is most of the teaching. The first is a multiplication-fact gap: a child who is unsure of 7 × 8 cannot hold the algorithm together while also recalling the fact, and the fix is fluency practice rather than more column work. The second is place value — the zero at the end of the second partial row. Written as this generator writes it, that row is genuinely 47 × 30, and a child who can say so out loud almost never drops the zero again; a child taught to "put a zero down because that is the rule" drops it for years.
