Using these worksheets in teaching
Coordinates are two ideas at once — a pair of numbers is an address, and the order of the pair matters — and the second one is where every mistake lives. Across before up is arbitrary, it is a convention rather than a fact, and children who have not been told that it is arbitrary tend to assume it is obvious and then forget it under load. Say it out loud every time for longer than feels necessary.
