Using these worksheets in teaching
Flashcards earn their place when they are used for retrieval rather than reading: show the card, wait for the answer, then confirm it. Short, frequent sessions beat long ones, and about twenty cards is enough for one sitting. Sort the deck into "knows it" and "still learning" piles instead of working through every card each time — the cards a student already knows are the ones that waste the practice. Print onto card or thick paper so the next card does not show through, and keep each deck in a labelled envelope.

- How many cards fit on a page?
- Eight — two columns of four, sized to be cut out and held comfortably. A deck can run to 48 cards, which is six printed pages.
- Can I use my own words?
- Yes. Type up to 48 entries, one per line — words, short phrases, numbers or quick questions — or start from one of the ready-made decks.
- What are the cut guides?
- Dashed lines between and around the cards, so a straight cut with scissors or a guillotine leaves even edges. Turn them off if you would rather cut freehand.
- Can I change the text size?
- Yes — medium or large. A long entry drops to a smaller size automatically and wraps onto a second line rather than running off the card.
- Should I shuffle the deck?
- Only when the order does not matter. Number words and the days of the week are taught in sequence, so shuffling is off by default; turn it on for sight words or topic vocabulary.
